And the saga of the insomniac continues.
Hehe. Just a few hours ago, I was in Manila to attend the ceremonies
for the 6th Child-Friendly Newspaper and Journalist Awards. I was with
Dr. Suva. I actually didn't want to go because I had a very long day
managing the last few students who still have no placement for their
internship as of last week. I also had to organize the receipts of our
expenses for the AWARDS project. As it turned out, I just had to
accompany Dr. Suva. I also felt that it was my business to attend
because I supervised the 2 awards project - the other one, Community
Press Awards - last February and March.
So, even if I wanted
to just stay home and recover, again, from lack of sleep, off I went to
Manila. I wasn't prepared what to wear for the occasion. I don't have
anything new to wear. I decided to go casual. I actually always do. I
wore a classic white shirt, denim and a black coat. Kill me if I had to
wear the coat despite the excruciating heat. I just had to, to make it
a little bit formal. I actually looked decent compared to previous
years I've attended the awarding ceremonies. I like that I looked slim
and polished. Hehe.
This year was different as the venue was a
lot smaller. It was at the Orchid Garden Suites, in front of Century
Park. It worked for the best since people cannot do anything but
mingle. We were seated at the front table. I wasn't in the mood to
mingle because my brain was half-dead because of my insomnia the other
night. As people around me were talking, there I was, a relative of the
Ice queen who couldn't wait to finish the event and go home.
Surprisingly,
the lady beside me talked to me. Man, I wasn't prepared. She spoke too
fast. I even did not remember her name, although I remember how it
sounded. Hehe. After exchanges of pleasantries, I looked her name up in
the souvenir program. I was so embarrassed to know that she is actually
the Senior Manager of the Community Relations Division of PLDT.
Anyway,
she had all the people in our table listening to her. If there was
anything good about my attendance in this year's ceremonies, it was
listening and watching how good PR people work it out in social
functions.
The lady beside me was good. You kinda feel she's
very sincere when she talks to you. On the other hand, I'm not that
kind of person or I'm just good at faking it. Wait. Perhaps, she's also
faking it. Hehe.
All the people who delivered speeches that
night, she congratulated and said remarkable things about their speech
immediately after they went down the stage. She talks a lot but with
class. You could see she's not the 'rehearsed' type. She's very
spontaneous. I also like the host of the program, Ms. ChiChi Fajardo.
I've met her a couple of times. She never fails to amaze me with her
wit and poise while hosting.
After being bored for the first
15 minutes I entered the function room, there I was watching the two
ladies' every move. It's been my dream to get into corporate or public
relations work. Watching them was an instant PR 101 for me. I was very
happy. I wanna get me some of that. Hehe.
Watch me.
